Artist Bio

Alex Lorenzo is a self taught artist working out of his home studio in Bozeman, Montana. He chooses to express a wide range of emotion through the use of color, texture and a vibrant visual language. His visions come to life in rapid pace with instinctive decisions, not allowing the brain to overthink. Paintings must flow out like water in order to effectively communicate the emotion that is of the present moment. While he does paint impulsively it is not one method that will always pan out; he continuously paints over old work until the desired outpouring comes to life, leaving a trail of relics from previous paintings bleeding through as life often leaves scars that form the way we develop as humans.
Living in this modern age has allowed his eyes to reach over the incredible diversity within life. Alex derives his influences from a multitude of sources ranging from the colors found throughout the natural world to the synthetic neon coated cities, the ancient cave arts to figurative artists of recent times. He seeks to connect and unite viewers with many emotions from the appreciation of the natural world to the anxieties found within our very cores.

Artist Statement

Doing the same thing day in and day out becomes monotonous, dragging inspiration and spontaneity down.  I choose not to place myself in a box. I work with every medium I can get my hands on. I choose to explore a variety of styles on the whim of each day. All of this prevents my art from becoming stale and oversaturated. While not everything will work out, just as in life, constantly stepping outside my bounds of comfort allows for a fruitful and exciting journey though creation. I use textures, colors, layers and symbology to help convey a specific moment of time within my mind, hoping to unite viewers along common ground.

While every person is unique, we all are much more similar than different. We feel the same loneliness, happiness, comfort and anxieties in varying degrees. We live in a day and age where we are all more connected than any other period of time, yet  feelings of isolation and depression still run rampant throughout our society. I hope to bring viewers back together, reminding them that they are not alone and that there is still beauty to be seen in every aspect of life, positive or negative. These are the aspects of life that help us develop as individuals and can help to create a better world. For when we are united, we can accomplish anything we set our collective brain on.
